The Staggs Trailer

Yet another addition to the Hawleywood Films collection.  The fun part of that statement will be looking back to this time in my life 20 years from  now and seeing the span of projects/films I’ve been and will be fortunate enough to work on.  Commercials, wedding videos, documentaries, music videos, feature films….ahh yes…the diversity of the Hawleywood Films collection will span everything from wedding video trailers to Academy Award winning films….but I’m getting ahead of myself….

…lets bring it back to now.

Right now I have a wedding trailer for you…the Oscar will be just a little farther down the road.

Kathy and Craig Staggs are two of the most outgoing, funny and uninhibited couples I know.  Working with them was one of those experiences where you just didn’t know what was going to happen next…and thats really ok because the true moment to celebrate is always, “right now.”  As someone who tends to always be looking eight steps down the road(refer to opening paragraph), it was nice to be reminded on how to live life in the moment.  How to enjoy the experience of whatever is happening around you as its happening.  It’s a skill, one I hope to improve on myself, and with Kathy and Craig as perfect examples to refer to its something I just might be able to do.

Their love for life and each other was undeniable and can be clearly seen in every frame I shot.  Whether we were shooting next to classic muscle cars, family group photos, or on top of what looked liked a castle, I never saw a tired or uncomfortable moment…and trust me…having shot a lot of weddings its rare to see a bride and groom not have that sheer exhausted look of, “ok…NO MORE PICTURES!”  These two just said, “bring it on.”

So here’s to Kathy and Craig Staggs.  Thank you for not only letting me be part of your special day, but for reminding me of how and why to, “just be.”

Copy and Pass Site and Trailer are up

The title really says it all.  This video has been in the making for quite a while now but I’m thrilled to say its available for everyone to go see.  If you don’t know about Copy and Pass yet…go watch the video.  If you already know about the project…go watch the video.  If you came across this blog post and have no idea whats going on…go watch the video.

I’ll be making regular blog posts here and on the projects blog page about my involvement in the project as the “film guy.”  So go check it out and after you’ve watched the video take part in this incredible experiment by spreading the word.  Go post something on your twitter or facebook about it.  Help this experiment spread and grow.  Like Tyler says in the video, this experiment is as much about people and social networks as it is about music.  Lets make it happen.

2011 is going to be the year of Copy and Pass and you can all be part of it.

Spread the word.

Copy & Pass Starting to Pick up Steam.

This won’t be a long post…its just that it occurred to me yesterday that I haven’t posted anything in a while.  Fortunately I had a shoot last night with my good friend and fellow entrepreneur, Tyler Banks of Copy & Pass.

We’ve been talking for about 4 months now about an intro video of some kind to help explain the concept of this experiment.  We’ve gotten a lot of people checking out the projects blog page but we got the impression that people weren’t getting it.  Hence…the intro video.

So Tyler came over last night, we sat down with a few lights, a camera, and just let Tyler talk for about an hour.  I really liked shooting him against an all black backdrop.  There’s no distractions.  Its clear and concise what the viewer should be focusing on.  In a word…it was….clean….unlike my basement…which as you can see is definitely not.

Look for the video itself to be completed sometime next week.  As always…tell your friends about this thing.  Tyler said it about 412 times last night on camera…this experiment only happens if people like you(reading this post) tell your friends and have them tell their friends.

Be part of the experiment.

The Renkoski Wedding

Alright…I have a confession to make.  I was a little nervous about editing this video.  When Ben and Julie gave me their song selections for their highlight video I had no clue how I could blend these two VERY different songs together.  After about 3 hours of blending the songs I realized these two just do not go well together.

So…I did the most simplistic thing I could think of…I made two different videos.

At first I wasn’t sure it would work all that well but the more I watched the two flow from one to another I liked it more and more.  The other cool part about approaching it as two different videos was I could do whatever I wanted in either of them without worrying about making them visually the same.  Hence…the classic 8mm film look.

I had SOO much fun editing this section together.  The song was a perfect choice for this type of visual look.  In fact, editing this section was what prompted the creation of my new Hawleywood Films intro vid.   but back to the real reason for this post…

What was that again…Julie and Ben!  Right.

With this 8mm look i was able to do a lot of new things I typically get to do.  Between speeding up footage, using multiple jump cuts, and showing some poor guy getting “Iced” this was probably one of the more entertaining highlight videos I’ve done.

The whole day was an awesome experience…minus the extreme heat.  As always, I had a blast working with my good friend and photographer, Jana Marler.  Besides having a great eye for taking pictures, she always finds a way to keep things fun and interesting.  She’s a blast to be around and I hope I get to keep working with her for a long while.

I hope you all enjoy the video as much as I do.  Ben and Julie were great to work for and I wish them all the best.  So without further ado…

The Newbold’s Wedding

Katherine Rice along with her new husband, Andrew Newbold and their families sure know how to do a wedding!

This was such an awesome day I can’t even begin to describe.  I feel very fortunate to have been part of their day.  I’ve known Katherine since Jr. High and I’m so thankful that the little bit of time we were around each other, oh so many years ago, led to me being the one she called to film her wedding.  Who would’ve thought that having a choir class together in Jr. High would eventually lead to me making something that she will share with her future children and grandchildren for years to come?  Thats a scary yet amazing thought!  :)

There were also a lot of people that helped make this day the success it was.  Clary Pfeiffer from www.claryphoto.com provided the amazing still photography work while Kindra Browne of www.iplanyourwedding.com was the mastermind behind the entire day.  Trust me…there was a TON of things going on but somehow Kindra kept us all on track and on schedule throughout everything.  Props to that lady!

I’d also like to send out my appreciation to Kat’s parents, Patty and Cliff.  It’s rare to find two people as genuinely kind, giving and patient as these two.  Through the last minute scramble, a hard-drive dying, a hard-drive coming back to life, and taking WAY longer than expected to edit this thing…they have been amazing.

So…for those of you who actually are reading this and not just skipping down to the video…I’ll keep you in suspense no more!  I hope you all enjoy it.

My trip to Texas

I spent the last week in Texas visiting some friends and I of course took my camera with me.  I got up one morning and shot some sunrise and cool time lapse stuff.  There isn’t a real story or structure to the video.  I just wanted to put some pretty pictures over some pretty music.  After I cut it together I got a little crazy with the coloring…I blame the lack of sleep, but looking back at it I kinda like the extreme color correction.

Renkoski Trailer

That’s right folks…time for another trailer from Hawleywood Films.

I’m really starting to like making these short trailers for the wedding videos I’m making.  It’s nice and relaxing…kinda makes me wanna go back and make one for all my older weddings.

So here you go…Ben and Julie Renkoski’s wedding trailer…

The actual wedding video is still being edited but I should have it done pretty soon so stay tuned.

Mexico Wedding

What can I say…the video kinda speaks for itself.  The Calders got married on the beach, I was fortunate enough to be there and film an amazing wedding.  There are few times when editing a video I get emotional…this video however kept me choking back the tears EVERY time I watched it.  Congrats to Cam and Tiffany.  I’m so thankful to have been part of this wonderful experience.  Sit back and enjoy.

Calder Wedding

What a crazy few weeks its been!  I was in Mexico last week filming an amazing wedding on the beach(yes, its as amazing as you think it is) with an awesome couple, Cam and Tiffany Calder.

I don’t think I’ve been this excited about editing a wedding video in a long time…so I’m gonna keep this post pretty short and get back to editing quick…but I did want to post this little teaser I threw together.  The montage/highlight video will be up in the next few days so keep coming back.

Kansas City Explorers Tennis!

New series of commercials for the Kansas City Explorers started airing recently.  If you’re in the KC area be sure to watch KSHB 41 to see them on TV.

If you’re not in the KC area, or if you prefer watching another network…fear not…because I loaded them up on YouTube in HD…so you can watch ‘em right here!

There are two different versions.  My personal favorite is the “Downtown” version, however the clients particular favorite was “Datenight”

Which one do you like better?
